Hot. It was very hot. But the racing was even hotter. (Go King of cliches). On a weekend that turned into a celebration of cross country mountain biking that saw the cream of the crop in South Africa meet at the Bloemendal Trail Park on the outside of Durbanville near Cape Town, the intense heat was the big equaliser. 2021 SA Laser Run Championships

The 2021 SA Laser Run Championships were held at Somerset College near Somerset West in the Western Cape on the 27th of March. The Laser-Run combines laser shooting and running and launched in 2014 as the last part of the full Modern Pentathlon competition. Athletes of all ages from 8 to 80 can participate and the event can be staged on beaches, in cities and in the countryside. SA Modern Pentathlon Championships

The 2021 SA Modern Pentathlon Championships were held at Somerset College near Somerset West in the Western Cape on the 27th of March The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport that comprises five different events; fencing (one-touch épée), freestyle swimming (200 m), equestrian show jumping (15 jumps), and a final combined event of pistol shooting and cross country running (3200 m). This last event is now referred to as the laser-run, since it alternates four legs of laser pistol shooting followed by an 800 m run (for 3200 m in total). Speedo island Escape

Speedo island Escape March 2021. It was a good day for a 7.5km Robben Island to Big Bay swim. No wind at all, flat seas, and lots of sun. The only minor blemish was an average sea temp of 12°C. Luckily I only had to watch. South African National Road Race Championship

(Via Cycling SA) Hayley Preen and Marc Pritzen were crowned the 2021 South African National Road Race Champions in Swellendam today. Pritzen claimed the under-23 title in the same race. Preen won the women’s elite road race (133km) in a time of 4:18:06 while Pritzen pipped Willie Smit to the post in a time of 4:51:42 in the men’s elite race (178km).
