The Maluti Double 90, 180km cycle race took us on a wild ride of weather extremes! From cold to warm, dry spells interrupted by sudden torrential downpours, and then back to bone-dry conditions—a proper test of team endurance. But through it all, the spirit of the race shone brighter than ever, turning the 2024 event into a true funventure!
Since its inception in 2016, this race has been run on the same team format as the Double Century in Swellendam, and has rightly earned its place on the cycling calendar as a proper South African classic.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Clarens in the Eastern Free State Highlands, a mere stone’s throw from the majestic Kingdom of Lesotho, I doubt that there are many races that can rival it for scenery. If you have never been there, the beauty of the Golden Gate National Park will blow your mind, and this race goes right through the heart of it.
To all the cycling squads from Cape Town and beyond: mark your calendars, rally your teams, and take on the challenge! The Maluti Double 90 is a race like no other, and worth the admin that it takes to get there.
